25 Minute Timer
Twenty-five minutes, one block of focused work. Start it, do one thing, stop when it sounds.
No signup. Works in any browser. A clear sound when time is up.
One Pomodoro
25 minutes is the work block in the Pomodoro Technique, which Francesco Cirillo developed in the late 1980s and named after his tomato-shaped kitchen timer. This page is just the single block. For the full cycle of work and breaks, use the Pomodoro timer.
Meetings that end on time
Booking 25 minutes instead of 30 leaves five minutes before the next call. Start the timer when the meeting starts and wrap up when it sounds. Google Calendar has a setting called speedy meetings that shortens invitations in the same way.
When 25 minutes is too short
Some work takes a while to get into. If you keep stopping just as you get going, try the 50 minute timer for a longer block with a 10 minute break.
How the timer works
- Press Start and it counts down. Change the hours, minutes or seconds first if you need a different length.
- It works from your device clock, so it stays right in a background tab, and the time left shows in the tab title.
- Pick an end sound (chime, bell, beep, gentle or silent). The full screen button puts the timer alone on the screen.
- Keeps working offline once the page has loaded. No account, nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
Why 25 minutes?
It is long enough to make progress and short enough that starting feels easy. It is also the standard Pomodoro length, so lots of study and work routines are built around it.
What should I do when it sounds?
Take a 5 minute break away from the screen, then start another block. After four, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
Is this different from the Pomodoro timer?
This page is a single 25 minute countdown. The Pomodoro timer page covers the full cycle of blocks and breaks.
Can I change the length?
Yes. Change the minutes before you press Start.
