Work Timer
Pick a rhythm, press Start and work until it sounds. When a work block ends it offers the break, and after the break, the next block.

Pick a rhythm
- 25/5 suits a day full of interruptions, or a task you keep putting off: 25 minutes is easy to start. It is the Pomodoro rhythm without the long break.
- 50/10 fits one block and one break into every hour, which makes it easy to plan a day around. Good for writing, coding and anything that takes a while to get into. On its own it is the 50 minute timer.
- 90/20 is one long block for your hardest piece of work. It is a long time to hold your attention, so save it for the task that needs it. On its own it is the 90 minute timer.
None of these is the proven best. Try one for a week and keep the one you actually stick to. You can change the minutes on the timer before you press Start.
Timing tasks so they do not spread
Before you start, decide how long the task should take and set the timer for that. Work on that one task until it sounds. If something else comes to mind, write it down and deal with it in the break.
If the timer sounds and you are not finished, decide on purpose: press +1:00 to add time, run another block, or stop and move on. A task with no end time tends to fill the whole afternoon.
The time left shows in your browser tab, so you can see it from any other tab without coming back to the page.
Breaks that actually rest you
Get up from the desk. Fill a glass of water, look out of a window, walk round the room. Scrolling your phone keeps your eyes on a screen, so it is not much of a break from one. When the break ends, the timer offers the next work block.
How the timer works
- Press Start and it counts down. Change the hours, minutes or seconds first if you need a different length.
- It works from your device clock, so it stays right in a background tab, and the time left shows in the tab title.
- Pick an end sound (chime, bell, beep, gentle or silent). The full screen button puts the timer alone on the screen.
- Keeps working offline once the page has loaded. No account, nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
Which rhythm should I use?
Start with 25/5 if you find it hard to get going, or 50/10 if 25 minutes feels too short. Use 90/20 for one big task. Change it if it does not suit you.
Does it start the break on its own?
No. When a work block ends the sound plays and the main button offers the break. Press it when you are ready.
Will it work in a background tab?
Yes. It runs from your device clock, so it finishes on time and the time left shows in the tab title. On a phone with the screen locked, the sound may wait until you unlock.
Can I set a different length?
Yes. Change the hours, minutes or seconds before you press Start.
Do I need an account?
No. The work timer is free and needs no signup.
