Question 1

How do I use the free online timer?

Accepted Answer

Select the Timer tab, then pick a quick preset (like Pomodoro 25 min) or type in a custom time. Click Start and the countdown begins. A sound plays when time is up. You can also use the assistant: type 'set a 10 minute timer' and it sets it and starts it for you.

Question 2

Is the online stopwatch accurate?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The online stopwatch works from your device clock rather than counting ticks, so it stays accurate even when the browser tab is in the background. It is precise enough for runs, workouts, cooking or anything else you need to time.

Question 3

Can I use multiple timers at once?

Accepted Answer

The main timer shows one countdown at a time. The Countdown tab can track several events at once, each with its own clock. For more than one countdown timer at the same moment, open The Clock in more than one browser tab.

Question 4

Does the timer work offline?

Accepted Answer

The Clock needs an internet connection to load the first time. After that, the timer and stopwatch keep working without one, so a dropped connection will not stop your timer. To open it offline later, add the page to your device's home screen.

Question 5

How do I set a timer for meetings?

Accepted Answer

Set a countdown for the length of the meeting (say 30 or 45 minutes) and put it on screen in full screen mode. A free timer for meetings keeps discussions on track because everyone can see the time, and it sounds when time is up. You can also type 'set a 30 minute meeting timer' into the assistant.

Question 6

What is the Pomodoro Technique and how do I use it?

Accepted Answer

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method: 25 minutes of focused work, then a 5-minute break. The timer has a Pomodoro preset, so one click starts a 25-minute work session. After four pomodoros, take a longer 15 to 30 minute break. Working in short, fixed blocks makes it easier to focus and harder to burn out.

Question 7

How does the assistant work?

Accepted Answer

The assistant understands plain requests about time. Click the Assistant button in the bottom right corner and type something like 'set a 20 minute timer', 'what time is it in Tokyo' or 'give me productivity tips'. It sets timers, answers time zone questions and offers suggestions.

Question 8

Can I use the stopwatch for workout intervals?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the lap button on the online stopwatch to track intervals, splits and rest periods. For HIIT or circuit training you can also use the timer for each work or rest block. You can copy your lap times at the end to look back over the workout.

Question 9

Is The Clock free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes, The Clock is free. The timer, stopwatch, world clock, alarm, countdown and assistant all cost nothing, there is no sign-up and there is no premium tier.

Question 10

Does The Clock work on mobile devices?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Clock works on phones, tablets and desktop computers in any modern web browser, with no app to download. You can also add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.

Question 11

How do I track time in different time zones?

Accepted Answer

Open the World Clock tab to see the current time in cities around the world. Add the cities you want and their times show side by side. It is handy for remote teams, planning travel, or calling family abroad. You can also ask the assistant 'what time is it in London?'

Question 12

Can I customize the timer notification sounds?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the sound menu under the timer to preview and pick the alert you want. The choices go from a gentle chime to a louder bell, plus a silent option.

Question 13

What browsers support The Clock?

Accepted Answer

The Clock works in all modern browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera, on desktop and mobile. Keeping your browser up to date gives the best results.

Question 14

How do I use the countdown timer for events?

Accepted Answer

The Countdown tab counts the days, hours, minutes and seconds to an event. Enter the event name and date and it builds a countdown, with your own background picture if you want one. You can track several countdowns at once for holidays, birthdays, trips and deadlines.

Question 15

Is my data private when using The Clock?

Accepted Answer

There is no account and we never ask for personal details. Your timer presets and settings are stored in your browser using localStorage, not on our servers. The cookie banner lets you turn off anything that is not essential, and the Privacy Policy explains the rest.

Question 16

Can I embed The Clock timer on my website?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There is an embed code that adds the timer to your own website or blog. Use the embed code generator on the homepage to get it. The embedded timer works the same as the one here and links back to The Clock.

Question 17

How do teachers use The Clock in classrooms?

Accepted Answer

Teachers use the countdown timer for timed activities, moving between subjects, test practice and silent reading. Put it on the smartboard in full screen. A visible countdown helps students pace themselves and cuts down on 'how much time is left?' questions. For a bigger visual version there is a dedicated classroom timer.

Question 18

What makes The Clock different from other online timers?

Accepted Answer

The Clock puts a timer, stopwatch, world clock, alarm and event countdown in one place, all free and with no sign-up. The assistant lets you set timers by typing what you want, and the layout works on any device.

Question 19

Does the alarm work when my computer is asleep?

Accepted Answer

Browser-based alarms need your computer to be awake with the browser open. For alarms you cannot miss, keep the device awake or set your phone's own alarm as a backup. As long as the device is on and the tab is open, the alarm will go off.

Question 20

How can I contact support for The Clock?

Accepted Answer

Use the Contact page to get in touch. You can also ask the assistant for help with any of the tools. Feedback goes straight into improving The Clock.
