8 Minute Timer
An eight minute countdown. A common time in the kitchen and a common pace on the road.
No signup. Works in any browser. A clear sound when time is up.
In the kitchen
Eight minutes in boiling water gives a large egg a fully set white and a yolk that is only just set in the middle. For a firm, crumbly yolk, go to the 10 minute timer.
Thin dried spaghetti usually cooks in 8 to 10 minutes. The packet is the best guide, and tasting a strand when the timer goes is better still.
The 8 minute mile
An 8 minute mile is a common target pace for recreational runners. Start the timer at the beginning of a measured mile and see where you are when it sounds. To check each split as you go, the stopwatch has lap times.
How the timer works
- Press Start and it counts down. Change the hours, minutes or seconds first if you need a different length.
- It works from your device clock, so it stays right in a background tab, and the time left shows in the tab title.
- Pick an end sound (chime, bell, beep, gentle or silent). The full screen button puts the timer alone on the screen.
- Keeps working offline once the page has loaded. No account, nothing to install.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to hard boil an egg?
About 8 minutes for a just-set yolk and 10 for a fully firm one, for a large egg lowered into boiling water.
How long does spaghetti take?
Most dried spaghetti takes 8 to 10 minutes. Go by the packet, and taste it before you drain it.
Can I run two timers at once?
Yes. Open the page in a second tab. Each tab runs its own timer, which helps when two pans are on.
Do I have to make an account?
No. It is free, with no signup.
